Freight from Italy to the Czech Republic

We bring goods to the Czech Republic from every industrial region of Italy – ceramics, furniture, chemicals and plastics, clothing and leather goods, paper and food. A full load from Milan to Prague (about 900 km) usually takes 1–3 days across the Alps via the Brenner Pass or Tarvisio; allow longer from southern Italy. The calculator shows an indicative price and we email a firm quote.

Italy’s industrial districts and their cities

Italian industry is organised in specialised districts, where dozens or even hundreds of manufacturers in one sector sit close together. For transport this means we can often collect from several suppliers in one area on the same run.

CityIndustryWhat we typically carry from there
Milanchemicals, plastics, cosmetics, metalworkingchemical raw materials, plastic and metal goods, cosmetics; silk and textiles from nearby Como

This page looks at the journey from Italy as a whole. How to secure machinery from Italy, pack wine, stack tiles or protect furniture is covered on our product pages. Olive oil, citrus fruit and other food from the south and Sicily are dealt with under food transport.

Brenner or Tarvisio?

Freight from Italy to the Czech Republic

From Lombardy, Emilia and western Veneto the shortest route runs up the A22 past Verona to the Brenner, through Tyrol to Kufstein and then via Munich and Waidhaus to Prague. Tyrol, however, places tight limits on lorry transit:

  • heavy goods vehicles are banned from the Inn Valley motorway at night,
  • on announced days southbound lorries are metered near Kufstein (about 30 days in 2026),
  • the Lueg Bridge on the Brenner motorway has mostly carried a single lane since 2025 because of its condition,
  • a sectoral ban covers certain goods, including stone, ceramic tiles, steel and logs; whether it affects a given truck depends on its emission class.

The second corridor leaves Udine on the A23 through Tarvisio into Villach in Austria, then follows the Tauern motorway to Salzburg and Linz. It suits Friuli and eastern Veneto, and serves as a fallback when the Brenner is congested. Both routes cross Austria under the GO-Maut toll; the Brenner route also crosses Germany, with its Toll Collect charge and Sunday lorry ban.

Italy’s driving ban calendar

Goods vehicles over 7.5 t may not use roads outside built-up areas in Italy on Sundays, public holidays and further days set each year by the Ministry of Infrastructure. In summer these include many Saturdays and some Fridays. Two exemptions matter for imports:

  1. Perishable goods – vehicles carrying fresh fruit, vegetables or food under the ATP regime may run during the ban if they display a green sign bearing the letter “d”.
  2. Journeys abroad – a vehicle whose papers show the load is bound for another country may set off two hours before the ban ends.

In practice a lorry loaded on a summer Friday afternoon will often not leave until Sunday evening. August is a story of its own: around the Ferragosto holiday on 15 August many Italian firms close for two to three weeks, so arrange collections before the summer break well in advance.

Goods from southern Italy and Sicily

Italy → Czech Republic
Italy → Czech Republic

From Campania, Apulia or Calabria the route runs the full length of the peninsula, adding several hundred kilometres to the distance from the north. From Sicily the truck also crosses the Strait of Messina by ferry. Smaller consignments from the south usually travel by groupage through hubs in northern Italy, while full loads run direct. We always state the exact timing in our quote.

Italian motorways are tolled by distance and vehicle class; lorries pay electronically and the carrier settles the charges. Rules in the main transit country are on our page about freight from Austria, and other countries are in the EU overview. Price your consignment from Italy in the calculator.

FAQ

How long does a truck take from Milan to Prague?
A full load usually takes 1–3 days for the roughly 900 km. Weekend bans in Italy and Germany and traffic at the Brenner both play a part.
Why do Italian loads sometimes get held up in Tyrol?
Tyrol has a night ban for lorries, meters traffic at Kufstein on announced days, and the Lueg Bridge is mostly down to one lane. If delays build up, we switch to the Tarvisio route.
Do lorries run in Italy at weekends?
Vehicles over 7.5 t stop on Sundays and public holidays, and on many Saturdays in summer. Loads of perishable food with the “d” sign are exempt.
Can you collect in Italy in August?
Yes, but many companies close for two to three weeks around 15 August. Confirm the collection date with your supplier before sending us an enquiry.
Do you carry single pallets from Italy?
Yes, by groupage, which is slower than a full load. Pallets from the south usually go through a hub in the north.
