Freight from Lithuania to the Czech Republic

Freight from Lithuania to the Czech Republic is mostly furniture and wood products, food, plastics, chemicals and electronics. Vilnius is about 1,100 km from Prague via Poland; a full load takes 2–3 days and groupage a little longer. We arrange transport through contracted carriers – check an indicative price in the calculator or send us an enquiry.

Why so much furniture comes from Lithuania

Lithuania → Czech Republic
Lithuania → Czech Republic

Furniture making is one of Lithuania’s largest manufacturing sectors, and much of its output goes to western and central Europe. For Czech buyers that means regular consignments of wardrobes, beds, upholstered furniture, kitchen doors and chipboard or solid-wood components. Factories are spread across the country, with many around Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai and Panevėžys.

Furniture is bulky but light, so for full loads we often choose a mega trailer with an internal height of around 3 m, which lets you stack more cartons. Our page on furniture transport explains how to work out the space you need.

Where we collect in Lithuania besides furniture

The rest of Lithuanian industry is shared mainly between Vilnius, Kaunas with its free economic zone and the port city of Klaipėda, while chemicals are based in two smaller towns. The table shows what most often leaves each place for the Czech Republic.

CityIndustryWhat we typically carry from there
Vilniuslasers and optics, electronics, biotech, foodlasers and optical instruments, electronic components, laboratory products, food
Kaunasautomotive electronics, food, textileselectronic parts for carmakers, food, clothing and fabrics
Klaipėdaport, wood and furniture, plastics, fish processingfurniture and wood-based panels, PET resin and packaging, fish products
Šiauliaielectronics, engineering, bicycle manufacturing, confectionerybicycles, electronic components, confectionery
Panevėžyscables and electrical engineering, glass, engineeringcables, glassware, machine parts
Jonavafertilisers and chemicalsnitrogen fertilisers, chemicals
Mažeikiaioil refineryrefinery products

Lasers and optics from Vilnius are small, expensive consignments that we often send by express van. Fertiliser from Jonava and some Mažeikiai products are dangerous goods and travel under ADR. Cheese and fish go in a reefer, while clothing and linen travel boxed on pallets.

The bottleneck at the Polish border

Freight from Lithuania to the Czech Republic

Lithuania borders Belarus and Russia’s Kaliningrad region, neither of which is an option for goods bound for the Czech Republic. The only road link to the rest of the EU is the short border with Poland: the A5 trunk road runs from Kaunas via Marijampolė to the Kalvarija–Budzisko crossing, followed by the S61 expressway to Suwałki and on via Warsaw, Łódź and Wrocław.

Since July 2025 Poland has been carrying out temporary checks at this border and keeps extending them. They have nothing to do with customs – the goods stay within the EU and travel with an invoice and CMR – but spot checks can hold a truck up, so we build some slack into the delivery time in Czechia.

The ferry from Klaipėda to Kiel is an alternative, though for the Czech Republic it only pays off occasionally, for example when collecting at the port and delivering in western Bohemia.

Tolls: from vignette to Via Toll

Lorries in Lithuania currently pay a time-based vignette, priced since 2024 partly on CO₂ emissions. From 1 January 2027 the electronic Via Toll system is due to take over, charging for the kilometres actually driven on tolled roads. After Lithuania come Poland’s e-TOLL and the Czech electronic toll. The carrier pays these as part of the freight price.

How to book transport from Lithuania

  1. Send us the collection address, the number and size of pallets or packages and the total weight.
  2. Tell us whether it is boxed furniture, chilled food or ADR dangerous goods.
  3. Depending on volume we propose groupage (1–6 pallets), a part load (7–18 pallets) or a full 13.6 m truck.
  4. We email a firm quote and, once you confirm, book a vetted carrier.
  5. We report progress on the road and send the signed CMR after delivery.

Collecting in Latvia or Poland too? Both can be combined on one truck – see freight from Latvia and freight from Poland. Other countries are listed in the EU overview, and the calculator gives an indicative price.

FAQ

How long does freight take from Vilnius to Prague?
A full load takes roughly 2–3 days for the 1,100 km or so. Groupage takes a few days longer.
Does the truck go through Belarus or Kaliningrad?
No. Goods for Czechia cross the Lithuanian–Polish border at Kalvarija and continue through Poland, so the entire route is within the EU.
Will Polish border checks delay the truck?
They can, as Poland is temporarily checking traffic on its border with Lithuania. It is not a customs check, but we allow for possible waiting time.
What vehicle suits furniture from Lithuania?
For bulky, light furniture a mega trailer with a taller load space is often the best fit. Smaller consignments go by groupage with protected cartons.
Do you move fertilisers or chemicals from Lithuania?
Yes. If the goods are classed as dangerous, we book a carrier with ADR equipment and a qualified driver; we will need the safety data sheet.
