Freight from Estonia to the Czech Republic

From Estonia to the Czech Republic we mainly carry wood products – sawn timber, pellets, furniture and prefabricated wooden houses – along with electronics and peat-based growing media. A full load from Tallinn to Prague (about 1,600 km) runs overland through Latvia, Lithuania and Poland in roughly 3–4 days, with no ferry involved. Send us the collection point, dimensions and weight; the calculator gives an indicative price and we email a firm quote.

Tallinn to Prague on a single road

European route E67, better known as the Via Baltica, starts in Prague and ends in Tallinn (with a ferry link on to Helsinki). A truck from Estonia therefore covers almost the whole journey on one international route:

  1. Estonia – Tallinn, Pärnu and the Ikla border crossing.
  2. Latvia – along the Gulf of Riga to Riga, then on via Bauska.
  3. Lithuania – Panevėžys, Kaunas and Marijampolė.
  4. Poland – from Suwałki via Łomża to Warsaw, then via Łódź and Wrocław to Kłodzko.
  5. Czech Republic – via Náchod and Hradec Králové to Prague.

Every country on the route is in both the EU and Schengen, so the goods never wait at customs. Temporary checks at internal borders do crop up from time to time, though, and can hold a truck up. Stretches in the Baltics and north-eastern Poland are not motorway throughout, which is why the trip takes longer than the mileage suggests.

Estonian towns where we load timber, furniture and electronics

Around half of Estonia is forested, and wood processing is one of the mainstays of its exports. For Czech buyers these are the places that matter most:

CityIndustryWhat we typically carry from there
Tallinnport, contract electronics manufacturing, prefab house builders nearbyelectronics, wall and floor panels and complete modules for wooden houses
Tartufurniture making, food processing, building materialsfurniture, windows and doors – lighter, but bulky and easily scratched
Pärnuplywood mill, wood processing, peat from the surrounding areabirch plywood, horticultural peat substrates
Imaverelarge sawmill with pellet productionspruce and pine timber in bundles, wood pellets on pallets or in bulk bags
Võrusawmills and wood processing in the south-eastsawn and planed timber

With pellets and fresh timber the trailer reaches its weight limit before it is full, so we always need the weight of the consignment.

Prefab houses and long components: choosing the trailer

Freight from Estonia to the Czech Republic

Wall panels for timber-frame houses are often taller and longer than standard pallets. Up to about 2.9 m high and 13.6 m long, a mega trailer or a curtainsider with a removable roof is enough, so a crane can load from above. Anything longer or taller counts as an abnormal load, which we arrange on request with permits for each country on the route. Please send a drawing or element list with dimensions in advance – we use it to choose the vehicle and the loading sequence so that the site in the Czech Republic can unload in the right order. How to work out space for bulky goods is shown on our furniture transport page.

Road charges between Tallinn and Prague

Estonia levies a time-based road user charge on goods vehicles over 3.5 t. Latvia and Lithuania have their own charging schemes, Poland uses the e-TOLL electronic system, and the Czech Republic charges by distance. The carrier covers all of these, and they are included in the freight price. In winter, winter tyres are compulsory in Estonia; black ice and snow on Baltic roads can add a few hours to the journey.

Small consignments and combining Baltic pick-ups

For a few pallets from Estonia we use a groupage service that consolidates goods from across the Baltic states and takes longer than a full load. If you also have suppliers in Latvia or Lithuania, one truck can often load at several points along the route – see freight from Latvia. Goods from Finland can join the same route via Tallinn; see freight from Finland. Other countries are in our EU overview, and the calculator gives you an estimate.

FAQ

How long does a truck take from Tallinn to Prague?
A full load takes roughly 3–4 days over about 1,600 km. Groupage from the Baltics takes longer.
Is there a ferry on the way from Estonia?
No. The Via Baltica gives a continuous road link from Estonia to the Czech Republic through Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, so no ferry is needed.
Can you carry wall panels for wooden houses?
Yes. Up to about 2.9 m high and 13.6 m long a mega trailer or curtainsider will do; larger components travel as permitted abnormal loads on request.
How many pellets fit on one truck?
Pellets are heavy, so the legal weight limit usually caps the load before the pallet spaces do. We confirm the exact quantity from the weight and packaging.
Do I need customs documents for goods from Estonia?
No, Estonia is in the EU. An invoice and a CMR consignment note are enough.
