Freight from EU countries to the Czech Republic – country overview

We move goods to the Czech Republic from 23 EU member states. A full truck takes the same or next day from neighbouring countries, 1–3 days from Italy and France, 2–4 days from Spain and 3–6 days from outlying countries such as Portugal, Greece or Ireland. There is no customs duty within the EU – an invoice and a CMR note are enough.

Customs, VAT and paperwork for goods from another EU country

Freight from EU countries to the Czech Republic – country overview

No customs duty is charged between EU member states and goods do not need to go through customs. Each consignment travels with an invoice (or delivery note) and a CMR consignment note issued by the carrier at collection. If you buy as a VAT-registered business from a supplier in another member state, you normally account for VAT yourself in the country of arrival – an accounting matter that does not affect the transport.

Special rules apply in three cases:

  1. Excise goods – wine, beer, spirits or tobacco travel with the electronic administrative document (e-AD) or a simplified document; see our page on wine and drinks transport.
  2. Territories outside the EU customs or tax area – such as the Canary Islands, Ceuta and Melilla; goods from there need customs or tax paperwork.
  3. Routes through a non-EU country – from Greece and Bulgaria the shortest road runs through Serbia or North Macedonia, from Ireland through Great Britain. The goods then travel under a transit procedure, or we choose a route that stays inside the EU (via Romania, or by ferry to Italy or France).

Groupage from more remote countries

From neighbouring countries groupage for smaller consignments (1–6 pallets) runs practically every day. From the Baltics, Scandinavia, Greece, Portugal or Ireland, consignments are usually gathered over several days into one truck, so transit takes longer. If you are in a hurry, a part load or a van just for your goods is worth considering – the calculator shows both options.

How to request a quote from any EU country

  1. Enter the collection and delivery places (town or postcode) in the calculator.
  2. Choose a vehicle or leave the choice to us, then add the number of pallets and the weight.
  3. Note the type of goods and any requirements (temperature, tail lift, ADR).
  4. You see an indicative price straight away; a binding quote follows within 30 minutes during business hours.

FAQ

Which EU countries do you ship from?
From 23 EU member states – from Germany, Austria and Poland through Benelux, Scandinavia and the Baltics to Greece and Ireland.
How long does a truck take from the most distant countries?
Allow 3–6 days for a full truck from Portugal, Greece and Ireland.
Do goods from the EU have to clear customs?
No, there is no customs clearance within the EU. The exceptions are territories outside the EU customs or tax area and routes through non-EU countries, where goods travel under a transit procedure.
Do you take small consignments from distant countries?
Yes, as groupage. From more remote countries it does not run every day, so transit is longer; for urgent goods we can offer a dedicated vehicle.
Can you deliver to Slovakia as well?
Yes, we deliver anywhere in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and en route in other countries on request.
