Freight from Hungary to the Czech Republic
From Hungary to the Czech Republic we carry car parts, batteries for electric vehicles, electronics, pharmaceuticals, salami, paprika and wine. Budapest is about 530 km from Prague via Slovakia, and a full truckload normally arrives the next day. We book a suitably equipped vehicle with a contracted haulier, and the calculator gives an indicative price.
Car plants, batteries and salami: where we load in Hungary
Over the past twenty years Hungarian industry has swung heavily towards vehicle manufacturing. The car plants are ringed by makers of engines, gearboxes, electronics and plastic parts, and factories for electric-vehicle battery cells and modules have been added more recently. Farm produce and food come mostly from the south of the country.
| City | Industry | What we typically carry from there |
|---|---|---|
| Budapest | pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, electronics | medicines, medical consumables, consumer electronics, battery cells from plants north of the city |
| Győr | car plant, engine production | engines, car parts |
| Kecskemét | car plant with a ring of suppliers | body and plastic parts, assembly components |
| Debrecen | car plant, EV batteries, pharmaceuticals | car parts, battery modules shipped under ADR, medicines |
| Székesfehérvár | electronics, aluminium processing | electronic components, aluminium products |
| Szeged | food processing | cured salami, ground paprika |
For imports into the Czech Republic this means mostly industrial consignments with fixed delivery slots. We agree the time window with the shipper and decide whether the load runs direct or via a cross-dock.
Lithium batteries as dangerous goods: what we need from you
Under ADR, lithium-ion cells and battery modules fall into Class 9. They may only travel in an ADR-equipped vehicle with a driver holding a valid certificate. Before we book, please send us:
- the UN number, and whether the batteries are shipped on their own or fitted in equipment,
- the number of pieces, the weight and the type of packaging,
- the safety data sheet and, where relevant, the battery test summary,
- their condition – new, used or damaged; damaged cells are subject to stricter rules.
Without these details the haulier will not accept the consignment. We handle paints, adhesives and chemicals from Hungarian plants the same way.
From the Pannonian Plain: salami, paprika, wine and poultry

Farming is still important in Hungary. Shipments to the Czech Republic include cured salami and smoked meats, ground paprika, honey, preserved vegetables, poultry and grain. Cured and chilled meat needs a reefer set to the right temperature; spices and tins can travel in a curtainsider, or in winter in an insulated vehicle to keep the frost out. Wine from regions such as Tokaj or Villány is subject to excise duty and moves under an electronic accompanying document – see wine and beverage transport for details, and food transport for chilled goods.
One journey, three toll systems
The direct route from Budapest to Prague runs through Slovakia, so a single trip crosses three countries, each with its own toll system:
| Section | Country | Toll |
|---|---|---|
| Budapest – Győr – border at Rajka | Hungary | HU-GO |
| Bratislava – border at Brodské | Slovakia | Slovak electronic toll |
| Břeclav – Brno – Prague | Czech Republic | Czech electronic toll |
The haulier pays every charge, and they are all included in our price. The alternative via Austria and Mikulov suits collections in western Hungary in particular.
When lorries may not run in Hungary
Hungary bans HGVs over 7.5 t at weekends and on public holidays, normally from 22:00 on Saturday to 22:00 on Sunday. In July and August the ban starts as early as 15:00 on Saturday. Because the route also crosses Slovakia, we factor in the Slovak Sunday ban as well. A Friday afternoon collection is therefore the worst timing for ordinary goods that need to be in the Czech Republic first thing on Monday.
Smaller consignments from Budapest

For 1–6 pallets we use groupage, which takes longer than a full load. For 7–18 pallets a part load is worth considering, and from about 18 pallets a whole trailer. There is no customs duty between Hungary and the Czech Republic; an invoice and a CMR note are enough.
Work out the price in the freight calculator. Neighbouring countries: freight from Slovakia and freight from Austria; other states are on the EU countries overview.
