Freight from Croatia to the Czech Republic

From Croatia we bring timber and furniture, frozen fish and other food, fertilisers, stone and cement to the Czech Republic, as well as overseas cargo landed at the port of Rijeka. A full load from Zagreb to Prague (about 750 km) normally takes 1–2 days; Dalmatia is further away. Check an indicative price in the calculator and we will email you a firm quote.

From Zagreb to Zadar: our collection points in Croatia

Most people picture Croatia as a coastline, yet its industry and farming lie largely inland, from Zagreb out to the Slavonian plain. From the coast we mainly bring goods out of port warehouses, fish and stone.

CityIndustryWhat we typically carry from there
Zagrebelectrical industry, drug manufacturing, food processingelectrical products, medicines (temperature-controlled), food
Varaždintextiles and clothing, foodclothing and textiles, food
Osijekwood processing, food, Slavonian farmingoak and beech timber, veneers, solid-wood furniture, grain
Kutinapetrochemicals, mineral fertiliser plantmineral fertiliser in bags on pallets
Rijekaport and logistics warehousescontainer cargo, olive oil and wine from nearby Istria
Splitcement making, stone workingcement, building stone from the islands, Brač for one
Zadarfish farming, seafood processingfrozen fish and seafood

Goods from Zagreb and Varaždin normally fit a standard curtainsider, Slavonian timber is side-loaded onto one, and bagged fertiliser needs a clean, dry trailer.

Frozen fish needs a reefer running well below zero and an unbroken cold chain from collection to delivery. Stone and cement are heavy, so the truck reaches its payload before the deck is full. Wine and olive oil have their own pages on wine transport and food transport.

Rijeka: the gateway for overseas cargo

Rijeka is Croatia’s largest cargo port, with motorway and rail links running straight inland. A new container terminal opened there in 2025, and the port is increasingly used by importers in central Europe. We collect container goods from warehouses in and around Rijeka. Anything not yet cleared through customs travels to the Czech Republic under a transit declaration arranged by a customs agent.

Croatia joined both the Schengen area and the euro in 2023. Slovenia, however, has repeatedly extended temporary checks on its Croatian border in recent years, so queues at the crossings can occur and we build them into the schedule.

Tolls and the summer season

Croatian motorways charge by the section driven: the truck takes a ticket on entry, or passes through with an ENC electronic tag, and pays on exit. Croatia is preparing to switch to a barrier-free system in which the ENC tag will be compulsory for lorries.

From mid-June to mid-September the roads to the coast fill up with holidaymakers. Selected stretches then carry weekend restrictions for goods vehicles over 7.5 t, typically on Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday. In high season we plan Dalmatian and Istrian collections with a margin, preferably early in the week.

How to request transport from Croatia

  1. Collection address – for island loads, tell us whether the goods are already on the mainland or still need a ferry.
  2. Type of goods and temperature – for fish and seafood, the required freezing temperature.
  3. Pallet count, dimensions and weight – with stone and timber, weight is usually the limiting factor.
  4. Customs status – for cargo from the port of Rijeka, whether it has been released for free circulation.
  5. Timing – in summer, as early as possible, since fewer trucks head north.

If some of the goods are collected in Slovenia or Hungary, see our pages on freight from Slovenia and freight from Hungary. Other countries are listed in the EU overview, and the calculator gives you a price.

FAQ

Is there customs duty on goods from Croatia?
No. Croatia has been in the EU since 2013, so goods travel duty-free with an invoice and a CMR note. The exception is uncleared overseas cargo from the port, which needs a transit declaration.
How long does a truck take from Split to Prague?
Allow roughly one day more than from Zagreb, as the route is about 400 km longer. We give the exact timing in our quote.
Do you carry frozen fish from Dalmatia?
Yes, in a reefer set to the freezing temperature specified by the shipper or consignee. It is recorded in the order and on the CMR.
Will the truck be held up at the Slovenian border?
Croatia is in Schengen, but Slovenia runs temporary checks on this border. Short waits are possible and we allow for them.
Do you collect on Croatian islands?
Yes, by arrangement. The truck has to take a ferry, so sailing times – and full ferries in summer – need to be factored in.
